Zhu Hai (竹海): bamboo forest. Bamboo is an important and significant element in the Chinese culture and also in the East Asian culture, and highly regarded in Confucianism and as such represents the scholar-gentleman's ideal. As same as pine and plum, bamboo doesn't wither in the cold winter, these three plants together symbolize steadfastness, perseverance and resilience, and are considered as the Three Friends of Winter.
 
This is a lovely small Gaiwan, perfect for a tasting session among 1-3 persons. The edges are decorated with pure silver powder before firing, which may oxidize but easy to clean. We have teacups of the same design which form a complete set, see Zhu Hai - Gongfu Cha Teacup.
