This is a top-quality Lao Cong Shui Xian, whose distinctiveness lies in two notable aspects: its origin in the core producing area and its exceptional processing.

Within the Zhengyan area, the core producing zone is limited to San Keng Liang Jian (the three pits and two ravines), regarded as the most authentic zone for Yancha. Hui Yuan Keng (or Hui Yuan Pit), the origin of this tea, is one of the three pits, alongside Niu Lan Keng and Da Keng Kou. Among San Keng Liang Jian, Hui Yuan Keng is the largest in area, significantly larger than Niu Lan Keng. It is renowned for producing the finest Shui Xian, while Niu Lan Keng is celebrated for its Rou Gui.

In the unique microclimate of Hui Yuan Keng, which is fresh, moist, and characterized by gently diffused light, abundant old tea trees thrive, particularly Shui Xian trees that are decades or even centuries old. Unlike localities named Yan (rock) or Feng (peak), where tea plants receive ample sunlight, resulting in teas that tend to highlight floral notes, Lao Cong Shui Xian from Keng (pit) locations, such as Hui Yuan Keng, often emphasizes woody scents due to shorter solar exposure and higher moisture in the low-lying terrain. These woody scents are further enhanced by the meticulous production process of our Hui Yuan Keng Lao Cong Shui Xian.

The elaborate roasting process is another standout feature of this tea. The exceptional quality of the harvest from such a distinguished locality allows for deeper roasting, which enhances the woody scents derived from Hui Yuan Keng’s unique terroir and intensifies the minerality in its powerful taste. The result is a flavor profile reminiscent of the traditional style: intense, complex yet balanced, setting it apart from the lighter-roasted Lao Cong Shui Xian products commonly found in overseas markets, as well as from our other woody Lao Cong Shui Xian: “The Wood.”
