The new version 2022 comes from the same plantation as the 2021 version, and was processed by the same factory. Basically, they are the same tea, although there is always some subtle difference according to the harvest of the year and the subsequent production. It is fun to discover the nuance between them, as well as to perceive how the same tea goes aging.

(Updated in April 2023)

Chun Gui is a very new varietal (No. 308), bred from the natural hybrids of Huang Dan (also known as Huang Jin Gui), whose cultivar identification was made just 7 years ago in 2015. Thus, there are very few plantations, including some farmers even don’t know about it.

Chun Gui is a name fairly literate, as the word comes from classic Chinese, which refers to both the bedroom of a teenage girl and the girl who lives in that room. The name was given by a researcher of the team, whose daughter was just born at that time. It gives a female image to the tea, and exactly the iconic fragrance of the varietal coincides with it, Jasmin scent! And that it is not the tacky and strong smell in bloom, but an elegant and faint scent of Jasmin flower buds, just like a bashful little girl. However, while you try the first sip, you will no longer think it's a female tea. Many lightly toasted Yancha are used to focus on aromas and don't prioritize flavors, but our 2021 Chun Gui is an excellent exception. It brings a very juicy and rich liquor, with complexity and plenty of freshness in it, reminding us of some green fruits especially citrus fruits, both in mouth and in nose. After the first 5 or 6 energetic infusions, the liquor mellows down and the sweetness stands out in the creamy texture, but the elegant floral scent is always there, merged in each sip, as well as in the lid of the Gaiwan and in the wet leaves.
