These teacups are the most typical styles of Jianshui Zitao ceramic art, using the very particular technique "carving and filling". All patterns and calligraphy are not painted, instead, are carved on the cup and then filled the grooves with clay of different colors. Unglazed, polished surface.
Cha Zhan (茶盏) is one of the categories of Chinese teacups. It doesn't have a clear definition, usually refers to those shallow cups with erect or slightly slop wall, and with the diameter greater than its height.
Together with Cha Zhan, here are some other common teacup types.
- Cha Bei (茶杯) : general name for all types of teacups.
- Cha Zhong (茶盅) : teacups with the diameter less or equal than its height, usually very small.
- Cha Wan (茶碗) : tea bowl.
- Cha Ou (茶瓯) : small version of tea bowl.
