This is an excellent integration of good tea and sculpture art, dedicated for our drinkers to celebrate the New Year of Rabbit 2023 together with Ukrainian artist Igor Venger.
Black Diamond comes from some tightly compressed Da Hong Pao tea bricks, aged more than ten years in good conditions and smashed into small pieces. It is a well selected option with all the enchanting characteristics particular to this special tea type, and with flavors somehow similar to our 2008 Da Hong Pao Tea Brick if you have ever tried it. It is a very friendly tea, easy to brew, comforting and intense, with malty sweetness and without any bitterness nor astringency. As for its aroma, it may vary a bit depending on the lot that you receive. The tea has been sealed in hermetic foil bags, so if by chance your portion comes from a newly opened bag, it highlights some aging aroma; then the tea starts to be oxidized once exposed to air, then in 2-4 weeks some ginseng notes appear in the tea replacing the aging aroma. In either case, the warm woody scent, black chocolate notes, plenty of minerality, as well as some hints of marzipan and dry figs are always there.
We are lucky to associate this delicious tea with an adorable creation of sculptor Igor Venger. Igor is known for his artistic clay figures, which have always been handcrafted single pieces. We are very grateful that he made an exception specially for Xin An Chu by crafting in mold a batch of hare tea pets. Despite being molded pieces, these hares are still unique and different from each other, as the artist has refined them with some final touches, giving an individual charm to each piece. These adorable tea pets are not for sale, they are gifts for each portion of Ukrainian Hare, together with a small cotton bag printed with the author’s hare sketch.

The steeping time is a general suggestion, since the extraction rate is affected by the size of the pieces. Extend a bit for the biggest pieces; and for the smallest shards, very short infusions will be sufficient, 20s-30s in the first infusion.
