We were lucky that we found the finest raw material to compress our first Yunnan white tea cake, and we were even luckier being able to associate it with the artwork of Greek painter Leni. The painting was created based on a photo that the son of the artist took in China. It presents an image of quiet country life, the children of remote area help their family to gather firewood, walk on the mountain trail back home with their dog, with the baskets full of sticks, and with a naive expression in their eyes, looking at the foreigner who is taking photos of them.

Such image of idyllic poetry is perfectly reproduced in the very pure flavor of this tea, just like the refreshing smell of wild mountain, like the naivety of country kids, like the slow and sweet life in distant village. This is such a pleasant and comforting tea, always sweet, with Umami in the initial infusions and with varied aromas all along, starting with penetrating floral fragrance, then with more fruity scents appearing in the later infusions. It is a magic that it doesn't taste bland or boring in a quick infusion, neither becomes bitter or astringent even when very long steeped.

This very fresh tea is made from a special varietal, Yang Ta Da Bai Cha. It is a local species with 160 years of cultivation in Yangta village (Jinggu, Yunnan), and with the oldest extant trees more than 600 y/o, but hasn't been well presented yet in Europe. This varietal provides silver white buds covered with bushy fuzz, very beautiful and suitable for making white tea. Also, it is the species that has the highest amino acid content among all big-leaf varietals of Yunnan, which is also why this tea logically has Umami, although such Umami may disappear over aging.
