Jin Yi Wu, or Gold Yi Wu, is a wonderful tea from Yiwu tea mountain. Yiwu is one of the six ancient tea mountains and was also historically the distribution center of Puerh tea, serving as the starting point of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. Yiwu has always been a renowned Puerh-producing area; today, it boasts 15 prestigious tea villages, known as 7 Cun 8 Zhai (7 villages & 8 hamlets). Unfortunately, the concept of micro-production areas at village level did not exist yet when this tea was produced, so the specific village of origin is unknown. To experience the flavors of the most celebrated and representative village in Yiwu, please check out our 2013 Luo Shui Dong Gushu.
This is one of the first teas we began purchasing in whole Tong quantities for the purpose of collection, and the result, after 18 years of aging in our private warehouse, has proven that we made the right decision. While retaining the characteristic fineness of Yiwu tea, it has completely mellowed from the raw and intense features it once had in its youth, with the rich gustatory substances transforming into calming and satisfying flavors. Now, it boasts a clear aging aroma from dry storage, along with pleasant incense and woody scents. The flavorful liquor offers a maturity and complexity that is only present in truly aged Puerh, without any bitterness or astringency even when steeped for a long time.
