This is an exceptional Lao Cha Tou, well-aged, as is evident even in its appearance. It is not as compact as many common Cha Tou, thanks to its excellent long-term aging over decades and the relatively mild fermentation during its production. It is well known that Cha Tou forms due to the high temperatures inside fermentation piles, clumping together because of the pectins contained in the leaves. When the temperature is not very high, a lighter fermentation occurs, resulting in less tightly compacted Cha Tou lumps and a higher content of active substances for the subsequent aging process.
This excellent tea has a pleasant flavor profile, both in the mouth and nose, as well as in the sensation when swallowed. It offers very clean and truly aged aromas, a thick and smooth texture, and a deep taste that lasts through many infusions, distinguishing itself from the ordinary Cha Tou found on the market.
We offer the fragments loosened from the Lao Cha Tou lumps separately. These loose leaves provide a flavor profile very similar to the lumps, with a much deeper taste and greater ease of brewing.
